Family videos show happier times for murdered Johnson Co. couple

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - We are getting a look at happier times in the life of murdered Johnson County couple Larry and Sandara Blanton, thanks to videos posted online by Sandara before she disappeared. Friends and family say these videos make it even harder for to accept the reality of the couple's murder.

A hard working family that loved spending time outdoors together, that is how officials say you would describe Larry and Sandara Blanton and their son Willie based on family videos posted online. Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Hazlette explains, "The videos indicate that we are dealing with what you would classify as a very normal family, that are close knit and involved in family oriented activities."

However, recent events tell a different story. The Blanton's were missing for nearly six months before their bodies were discovered buried behind a barn on their property. Their son, Willie, became a person of interest in their disappearance early on in the investigation.

Friends and neighbors of the Blantons' say they always seemed to enjoy spending time together, especially time spent taking care of and riding their horses.

Friend and neighbor, Shane Blanton says, "They seemed to get along pretty good. There were times they were aggrivated at one another like any family would be."

Shane Blanton, who can be seen singing with the family in some of the home videos, says that is why the question of how did it get to this point is impossible to understand. "That is why we all held out hope in our hearts and thought that there might be a chance they would wander back in," explains Blanton.

Officials with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office say they have viewed the videos and they will not be used in the investigation.

Police found the couple after their son's girlfriend, Amanda Fannin, made a plea deal...giving them information about how the couple died and where their bodies would be found.
a grand jury is expected to hear the case soon.
