It was a cold day in Corbin on Saturday, but that didn't stop family, friends and community members from coming out and running for a cause. The second annual 5K "Run/Walk Because You Can" was held in honor of Michelle Brock. She died from Huntington's Disease in 2009.

Michelle Brock was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease more than 10 years ago.

"It's a very devastating disease. It attacks your nervous system, your muscles and it completely deteriorates your brain cells," said Angela Williamson, Michelle's Sister.

Loved ones say it was hard on everyone close to her.

"She never let you know she was suffering. She always had accountments that were bright and cheery even into the end," Williamson said.

To keep Michelle's memory alive, her family and friends organized a run/walk.

"As we saw Michelle's disease progress, we saw how much it took from her body. But we know it could not take from her spirit so it's so good to come out and honor her in this way," said Marcee Hopper, a lifelong friend of Michelle.

More than 75 runners came out to run and walk to fight against Huntington's Disease.

The people who ran and crossed the finish line, did it because they can.

"Michelle would have been out here if she could. For the last few years of her life she couldn't walk. She was in a wheelchair, so this is our tribute back to her because we're walking and running because we can," said Robin McCollough, Michelle's sister.

People ran and walked because they could, but more importantly, most did it in honor of someone they say they'll never forget.

Family members say last year, they raised more than two thousand dollars for the Huntington's Disease Society of America. They are hoping to make more than that this year.
