Frankfort, Kentucky - Richie Farmer's attorney is asking for a shorter sentence for his client.
Earlier this month, federal prosecutors requested the former Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner be sentenced to 27 months in prison.
Guthrie True says the 27 months prosecutors are seeking is excessive and will only hurt Farmer's three sons.
He is asking for a sentence no longer than 21 months.
The basketball star pleaded guilty in September to two counts of misappropriating government resources while overseeing the agriculture department.
Sentencing is set for January 14th in Frankfort.
