Fatal Accident Leaves One Dead

Officials say Sherman Perry, who was driving a blue pick-up truck, was coming down the hill and crossed the center line, hitting Fred Marcum and Robin Perry, who were in a white pickup truck.

"When I come up on the scene, I saw two vehicles. One was on fire and one was away from the other vehicle that was on fire," said Keith Maynard, the Martin County Deputy Sheriff.

Officials say Sherman Perry's vehicle caught on fire, but he got out without being burned.

"You're adrenalines running high because you don't know what you're dealing with sometimes. You're dealing with people's lives and you're trying to save a life," said Donald York from the Warfield Pigeon Roost Fire and Rescue Team.

Officials say Marcum and Perry were cut out of their truck. Marcum died on the scene from injuries and Robin Perry was flown to the hospital with unknown injuries.

"Any time like this, an emergency personnel rolls up on a serious accident like that it's hard to see and take sometimes. It's just a bad situation we have to deal with," said Maynard.

Officials say Sherman Perry was suspected to be on drugs. He was arrested and charged with a dui, murder, assault and other traffic charges. He is now lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. State Police are still investigating this case.
