Human remains found in burned home

While putting out the flames, volunteer fire fighters discovered human remains at a house fire Perry County.

It happened early Saturday morning at 6268 KY Highway 451.

Smoke, small flames, and human remains are all that is left after a house fire in Busy.

A neighbor saw the flames while driving by the home early Saturday morning.

"The house was pretty much fully involved. They knocked it down then later discovered that there was a victim inside the house," said Avawam Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Leonard Toler.

Most of the structure had already collapsed when the Avawam Volunteer Fire Department arrived.

Michael Couch got home from work at six A.M. to find a fire next door.

He did not want to talk on camera but says he did know the people that lived in the home and told officials there might have been someone inside.

Neighbors' concerns led officials to contacting others to find out if anyone was home during the fire.

"First told them that everybody was gone. They tried to get a hold of people and found out later that there was someone inside," said Fire Chief Toler.

The body was burned beyond recognition.

"It was determined that the body that was located was undetermined to be identified. The body will be sent off to Frankfort for medical and dental records to be identified," said Randall Coots, a Kentucky State Police trooper.

No foul play is suspected, and the case is still under investigation.

The case is ongoing pending the results from the medical examiners and the Perry County Coroner's Office.
