Federal lawsuit claims layoffs came from contract dispute

A federal lawsuit says more than two hundred employees of a Perry County coal mine were laid off due to a contract dispute.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports Trinity Coal claims the South Carolina Public Service Authority, known as Santee Cooper, has backed out of a deal for Trinity to sell coal to the utility.

The suits says the utility has refused to take the coal this year or pay for it, so Trinity was forced to idle the mine and lay off 260 of the 300 employees.
