Federal lawsuit filed against superintendent

Posted: Mon 11:00 PM, Oct 31, 2011

A federal lawsuit claims the Bell County Superintendent failed to notify authorities about an alleged sexual assault of a third-grader by a teacher.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports the suit claims Superintendent George Thompson also helped remove documents that could have been used in a case against former teacher Travis Phipps.

The lawsuit was filed last week by a mother and father of the boy who was allegedly assaulted several years ago.

Thompson declined to comment.
