Federal mine inspectors issue 37 citations

Federal inspectors issued an imminent-danger order at an underground coal mine in Harlan County after finding a cigarette lighter in the mine.

Officials with the Mine Safety and Health Administration say inspectors found the lighter near combustible materials at a D & C Mining Operation.

Smoking and smoking materials are banned in underground coal mines because of the danger of an explosion.

Inspectors issued a total of 37 citations and orders at the mine including for non-working portable oxygen machines that miners wear.
