Ferus hosts open house in Jenkins

A new plant is another step closer to begin operations in Letcher County.

Ferus hosted an open house at its newest liquid nitrogen producing site in Jenkins.

Students from local schools and local and state officials all went to check out the progress.

Most of the plant is built, and company workers say it should begin operating this summer.

One official says the company is already looking for ways to expand in the region.

"We'll evaluate that. As we see development happening, then we will look to possibly expanding in the future," said Joe Ladoucer, Ferus Vice President of External Affairs.

The company has already hired 33 workers for the plant's opening.
