Fire School helps train firefighters

Hazard, Ky. (WYMT)-- Firefighters from across Kentucky had a chance to get hands-on and classroom training this weekend at the Mountain Firefighters Association Fire School at Hazard Community and Technical College.

"Our section is actually the junior firefighters and basic firefighters. That is a class designed for new firefighters that are just getting into it or firefighters with limited experience," said Robert Lindsey with the Kentucky Fire Commission.

Training included how to perform a rescue from a building, how to use ropes to rescue people, and proper handling and aiming of a fire hose.

"With the number of fire departments we have, these schools are excellent," said Lindsey.

The Kentucky Fire Commission also organized the training.
