ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A fire chief called to rescue a hiker who fell off a cliff had to be rescued himself.
It happened Sunday night in the Burnt Ridge area of Rockcastle County.
Firefighters with the Brindle Ridge volunteer fire departmentresponded, including Chief Larry Mullins.
As Mullins was waiting for the helicopter to land for the hiker, his son Bryan Mullins tells WKYT his father went into sudden cardiac arrest.
The helicopter then rushed him to the hospital.
"If that hadn't happened where it did in the rural area that we're in, we probably would have had a thirty minute wait time for an ambulance. If he would have been alone, chances are he wouldn't have been here today," Mullins told WKYT.
We are told broke several bones in the fall. Both he and Chief Mullins are expected to be okay.
