JEFF, Ky. (WYMT) - A fire destroyed a Perry County home Friday morning.

Smoldering wood and smoke is all that remains of one Perry County families home.

Officials say they got the call around 10 a.m.

“We had about a third of the house that was already fully involved we pulled hose and tried to get as much water on it as we could at the time," said Beth Eddington with the Viper Fire Department.

Officials with The Viper and Jake's Branch Fire departments say they were battling an even tougher situation.

“Due to the one lane road that this house is on and the limited amount of water that we have, we weren’t really able to save much,” said Eddington.

Firefighters say the fire may have gone undetected for hours because of its remote location.

The owner of a neighboring business says he was concerned when he saw smoke coming from the mountainside while on highway 15.

“When I got there it was almost fully engulfed, smoke was coming out everywhere,” said Tom Teague with Teague Metal and Truss.

A scene he says was sad, as the owner watched his home crackle and burn.

“I feel so sorry for him because he had spent a lot of money on this place and really built a nice place up there,” said Teague.

Something the owner says he hopes to rebuild to make new memories.

No one was injured or inside the home at the time of the fire.

Officials say a cause for the fire is not yet known.
