Lynch house fire kills elderly woman

LYNCH, Ky. (WYMT) - An elderly woman in Harlan County died in a house fire yesterday.

Lynch police received a call of a house fire on Gap Branch Road around 3 p.m. yesterday. Later, eighty-one year old Marjorie Boggs died from her injuries at Harlan ARH. Her son, Jeff Boggs, says he thinks the fire started by his mother dropping a lit cigarette on the floor.

"We can look at these houses that are burnt down, and everything that's melted, but losing somebody is real bad. But, we'll make it. We know we'll be together again someday," said Boggs.

One of Marjorie Bogg's other sons, 63-year-old Robert Boggs was also injured in the fire. He was later released from the hospital. Officials say the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. They say no foul play is suspected.
