Officials say it started in a bedroom Tuesday afternoon.
Many are thankful a fire that broke out in an apartment building in downtown Cumberland was contained to just that.
Cumberland Fire Chief Fess Eldridge says the fire started around 4:30pm Tuesday afternoon.
Eldridge says the fire only caused damage to one apartment and some water damage in the businesses below.
“It could have been a lot worse, but we contained it into one room into the bedroom and that's it. There's smoke damage all through the top, but that's all,” Chief Eldridge said.
The building's owner says she's thankful for the quick actions of many in the community.
“It means a whole lot whenever your community people come together with you. And I really appreciate them,” Elizabeth Estep said.
