Firefighters rescue Husky that fell through ice

FLORENCE, Ky. (AP) - A Husky that fell through a frozen pond in northern Kentucky is expected to be fine after being rescued by firefighters.

Florence Fire Battalion Commander Robert "Bud" Webster told The Kentucky Enquirer that callers reported seeing the dog trapped beneath the ice on a frozen pond at about 10:13 a.m. EST Sunday.

Webster says firefighters found Ali, a year-old husky mix, near the center of the pond where the ice had collapsed.

Fire and EMS crews could not reach the dog using conventional means, so they called in the Northern Kentucky Technical Rescue Team.

Hebron Fire Capt. Tony Crouch says it took about 20 minutes to get the dog out of the pond.

The animal's owner wrapped the dog in blankets before taking Ali to the vet.
