HYDEN, Ky (WYMT-TV)- First Lady Jane Beshear made a stop in Leslie County Friday. She has traveled all through the Commonwealth as a part of Kentucky Literacy Celebration Week. The event highlighted Leslie County Schools and what they are doing to promote literacy within their district. The First Lady was impressed with the school systems success with the Kentucky Reading Project.
“The commitment of the staff that is here, both the teachers and the principals, and superintendent it is just phenomenal. It gives me great hope as to what these children, what opportunities are going to be there for them. Those opportunities depend on the level of education, and education begins with literacy," says the First Lady
Beshear hoped to read to the Leslie County students today, but school was not in session.
