PERRY Co., Ky. (WYMT) - It is no secret for folks in the mountains, coal mining is a way of life. For the past couple of years coal production has decreased and there have been massive layoffs.

The goal of one program is to find jobs for laid off miners.

It has been more than a year since Billy Adams had a job.

"As a displaced miner for a year, this right here is a blessing in disguise," said Adams.

Adams is talking about the H.O.M.E. initiative.

H.O.M.E. stands for hiring our miners every day. The program began last December and this is their first job fair.

Michael Cornett is the director of agency expansion and says 17 employers were present.

"They are hiring and they wanted to hire the out-of-work miners through our program who were here at today's event," said Cornett.

Directors for the H.O.M.E. initiative say it was a successful day and they hope to have more job fairs in the near future.
