If you had a live Christmas tree this year and you need to get rid of it, the Department of Fish and Wildlife wants it.

They use the old trees to make better habitats for for fish by dumping them in lakes all across Eastern Kentucky.

"We are going to be increasing habitats for the fish to increase forage and the overall health of these fish." Jay Herrala, with the Dept. Of Fish and Wildlife said.

Officials say it's not a bad deal for kentucky fisherman as well, providing some good fishing spots for years to come.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife will begin dumping trees in mid-January.

Officials say dumping the trees this winter will make for better fishing come this spring.
