Witnesses said the water went down as fast as it came up, but flash flooding left a mess behind in parts of Letcher County on Friday.

The downpour in Isom caused some true "flash" flooding.

"It has washed the road out, up behind me here. A culvert stopped up and it just washed the road out," said Letcher County Magistrate Terry Adams.

Neighbors said it was quite a scene, but gone almost as quick as it came.

"I just came out to see what was going on," said John Holbrook.

When he came outside he saw that the road was partially under water and a four-foot section had washed away.

"It was all over the road, it was over the culverts," said Holbrook.

Holbrook said that though it was an inconvenience, this is not the worst they have seen.

"I have lived here forty years and it's been up in my yard," said Holbrook.
"We ain't worried about it. they will have it fixed by tomorrow where we can get in and out."

Adams said that he has seen much worse with the amounts of rainfall they had been getting in the recent month.

"We have had quite a bit of flooding here lately, the last month or so, we have had plenty of rain," said Adams.

Adams said with this kind of weather, it's better to play it safe.

"If you don't need to get out just stay in and let the road department take care of the problems," Adams said.

The culvert has been temporarily repaired. No serious injuries were reported.
