29-year-old Jonathan Albert Giraldo is now headed back to Florida after his appearance in Fayette District Court to answer to charges he faces in connection with a violent home invasion and armed robbery just outside of Orlando this past Sunday.
In the incident, a family was tied up and one man was kidnapped and forced to open a safe at a business he works for.
"On this particular case, we just wanted to help another law enforcement agency because we know that we're going to need help someday with another fugitive who may leave our area and go elsewhere," said Lexington Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts.
She said they got the tip from Osceola County Sheriff's Department yesterday that Giraldo might be in our area.
"One of our officers was able to follow up on leads and make contact with a suspect that matched the description of the one we received from the Sheriff's Office in Florida," said Roberts.
As for why Giraldo was in the area where police pulled him over, is still unclear.
We decided to call a couple of numbers on the arrest report, both an emergency contact and a home number listed for him, to see if anyone at those numbers knew why he was in Lexington in the first place.
We didn't have much luck.
Giraldo is one of three suspects police were searching for, the other two, were arrested in South Carolina.
