FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Officials with the Middle Creek National Battlefield are trying to make it a national park.
The battlefield is currently under the operation of the Middle Creek National Battlefield Foundation, but officials say becoming a national park could benefit the region in several ways.
"We would see an increase in tourism. We would see jobs, and we would see an increase in our economic development just from the establishment of this one park," said Founder and President Frank Fitzpatrick.
Officials say it could take a few years before the battlefield might become a national park.
