FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The son of an Eastern Kentucky sheriff is facing several charges.
Floyd County Sheriff John K. Blackburn's son, Jeffery Blackburn, was arrested after police say he assaulted someone and ran his car into a police cruiser.
The arrest citation says police got the call that Blackburn left the scene of an assault, and when police caught up with him he ran a stop sign then briefly accelerated before slamming on his brakes in front of the police cruiser.
The citation then says the officer swerved to miss hitting Blackburn's truck, but Blackburn also swerved hitting the cruiser.
The citation then claims when the officer got out of his car Blackburn tried to drive away, and the officer ordered Blackburn to turn off his car and make his hands visible.
Two Prestonsburg officers then tried to place Blackburn under arrest, but they say he did not go easily.
Blackburn is now facing charges of disregarding a stop sign, reckless driving, fleeing or evading police, and 2nd degree assault of a police officer.
Blackburn was taken to the Floyd County Detention Center.
He was released from jail on a $2,500 bond.
This arrest comes just a few months after Blackburn was arrested for public intoxication.
That arrest happened in March less than one week after Sheriff John K. Blackburn was arrested for driving under the influence.
