Floyd County bridge to be replaced

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Crews are preparing to tear down and rebuild a Floyd County bridge.

The bridge is on KY 1428 near Cow Creek.

The road will be closed starting Monday for four months while crews work to rebuild the bridge.

The new bridge will be wider with three foot shoulders on both sides.

During construction traffic will be detoured onto U.S. 23 and KY 302.

"Like all of our roadway facilities, whether it's pavement or bridges, they only have a certain service life, and this one has come to the point it's time to be replaced," said Darold Slone, Transportation Engineering Branch Manager.

The summer dates were chosen to help minimize impacts on school traffic.

The road should be back open by August 15.
