PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Goldie Conn grew up in Floyd County as one of fourteen children ... loving to cook and help feed those in need. On Saturday, she celebrated her 105th birthday at Prestonsburg Healthcare where she now lives.
Lynn Watts says, "Everyone in this facility loves her. We all call her granny."
They've celebrated numerous birthdays with Ms. Goldie which she always has a special request for...like last year's pig roast or her 102nd when she rode a motorcycle.
Conn says, "Oh yea it was fun. I didn't know how it was going to be, but it was good."
Workers say Ms. Goldie had one request for her 105th birthday ... that there be some kind of shindig.
So a shindig is exactly what they had ... complete with music, cake, hamburgers and hot dogs. Surrounded by dozens of friends and family members both young and old.
Watts says, "Well you know when you are 105 ... you have a lot of family."
Still with a sharp mind and a good sense of humor after more than a century of life ... You better not call Ms. Goldie old.
Conn says, "I don't think it is old ... do you? No."
With so many years behind her, she's made quite an impact. Her family says her strong faith and enjoying her favorite treats is what keeps her going.
Her son, Garland Conn says, "She relies on the lord and black coffee... mom still drinks black coffee."
There are two things she says she must have every day. "Candy and coffee," says Conn.
Celebrating 105 full years of life and being thankful for each and every one.
"We will see you next year at the 106th birthday, Lord willing."
