Prestonsburg police made a huge synthetic marijuana bust at a Floyd County business today.
They say they are cracking down on synthetic marijuana, and they got a tip Thursday that a store in Martin was about to get a bunch.
"We had received some information from the FedEx hub there that they had a shipment of synthetic marijuana coming. We intercepted that shipment and seized it," said Det. Trint Combs.
They said when the went in the Smoke Shack, they found even more and seized it too, the total value of all of it equalling more than $22,000.
They say what bothers them the most about synthetic marijuana is its packaging.
"It's packaged to attract children with the cartoon characters, the colors, the cartoon writing," said Assistant Police Chief Bryan Hall.
They also said they have found it several times in the local high schools.
"Time after time principals at the high schools have addressed us and told us about these problems," said Hall.
Police say many people believe it is still legal to buy and sell the synthetic marijuana in Kentucky, but they say as of April 11 legislation came through that made it illegal.
"Sell it, possess it, all the same laws that go along with marijuana go along with synthetic marijuana. It applies the same now," said Combs.
Police charged Thomas Jones for possession of the synthetic marijuana.
Smoke Shack employees declined to comment.
