A Floyd County man admits he killed a man and dumped his body in the river.
20 year old Benjamin Meek pleaded guilty to murder, robbery, and several other charges.
Police say he killed 20 year old Brian Jacob Gayheart in May.
The commonwealth's attorney says Meek killed Gayheart over just a handful of pills.
Police say in May, Meek and his wife Kaitlyn Crum Meek went to the Goble-Roberts area to rob Gayheart of pills.
Gayheart's body was found weeks later in the Big Sandy River in Boyd County. Police say he was beaten before his body was put in the water in Floyd County.
"Both defendants were pretty open about what they did. From the time they were interviewed, they've always admitted their role in it," said Commonwealth's Attorney Brent Turner.
In August, Kaitlyn Crum Meek took a plea deal for lesser charges and agreed to testify against her husband. However, now she will not have to. Benjamin Meek pleaded guilty to murder, robbery, assault, theft, and tampering with physical evidence charges.
"His wife had already agreed to a 15 year sentence and was going to testify against him, so he knew he was pretty well stuck on that," said Turner.
The judge sentenced him to 23 years in prison.
"It's a sad case all the way around. You have three young people basically, one who lost their life and two other people who have destroyed their lives, basically over a handful of pills," said Turner.
Kaitlyn Crum Meek was sentenced in September. She is serving a 15 year sentence in prison.
