Flu outbreak closed Middlesboro Schools

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WYMT) - Middlesboro school leaders hope students can get well during Spring Break next week.

School administrators had to close school on Friday because so many students and teachers have the flu!

Administrators say they could not find enough substitutes to cover the all the teachers out sick this week.

Student attendance dropped to 82 percent at one school.

Leaders closed school a day early for Spring Break to clean all the buildings.

"We decided to close a day early and try to get the building sterilized, and hopefully our kids will get healed up next week, because we have Spring Break next week," said Waylon Allen, Director of Pupil Personnel.

Middlesboro school leaders say the flu outbreak hit the school system later than usual this year.
