HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - UK Football Fans in eastern Kentucky are sharing their excitement about the program's new coach.
Mark Stoops was officially introduced as the new UK sideline boss at a news conference in Lexington.
At his introductory news conference, Mark Stoops vowed to rebuild a Wildcat program that struggled to a 2-and-10 finish this season.
Promises like that are drawing the attention of UK fans.
Stoops spent the last three seasons as Florida State's defensive coordinator.
“He's a defensive-minded coach. It's about time to stop some of these SEC schools from scoring on us, for sure. Defense wins championships,” Bart Teague said.
Teague says Stoops will help recruit better athletes to the Bluegrass.
“I feel like you're going to see a lot more players coming from Florida, Georgia, and Ohio as opposed to more of the in state players. I think we're going to be a lot more competitive now,” Teague said.
Not everyone is excited about Stoops for what he might do on the field.
“He's good looking and he's got a real nice personality,” Lois Morgan said.
He also has a big challenge to rebuild a program that has fallen on hard times.
Stoops replaced Joker Phillips, who landed an assistant coaching position at Florida.
