HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - She was a former Judge-Executive, Magistrate and a leader in Harlan County for many years.

Delzinna Belcher was found dead at her home Thursday morning.

Friends and former co-workers say Delzinna Belcher dedicated her life to making Harlan County a better place.

"I remember her as a strong person for Harlan County," said Curt Stallard, Harlan County Jailer.

"Anywhere you went, there was Delzinna working for Harlan County," said Donna Hoskins, Harlan County Clerk.

She served as Judge-Executive for many years. Those who worked with her say she wanted to improve the quality of life for everyone and clean-up the county.

"As Judge-Executive, she always had Harlan County at heart. Harlan County was always at the forefront for everything she did," said Dan Lankford who was Work Release Supervisor under Belcher.

"Delzinna will be greatly missed in Harlan County," said Stallard.

She left the Judge-Executive's office in 1998. Even after she left the Judge-Executive's office, she continued to serve in Harlan County. She was a Magistrate for a short time and Pine Mountain Trail Coordinator. She discussed her love for Harlan County in a WYMT interview ten years ago.

"This is my home. I've always wanted to make a contribution to Harlan County and this is a really good way of being involved with the county, its activities, being a part of the solutions here," said Belcher in the 2003 interview.

"She would always fight for Harlan County. She could talk to her contacts in Frankfort and still get things done," said Stallard.

"We lost a good person in Harlan County," said Hoskins.

Delzinna Belcher was 61 years old.

The Deputy Coroner Jim Rich says the cause of death is undetermined, but it is not suspicious.

Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan County is handling the arrangements.
