Former assistant chief of Lexington police dies

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) - The first African American to become assistant chief of Lexington Police, has died.

City leaders say Ulysses Berry died Wednesday. He was 72 years old.

He became assistant police chief in 1990, and in 2001, he served as the city's interim police chief.

In a statement, current Police Chief Ronnie Bastin said Berry will be missed. We're told services are still pending.
