Former contractor is facing a federal lawsuit

A former Knox County contractor is facing a federal lawsuit after attorneys say he steered thousands of military contracting dollars into his own company.

A U.S. District Judge issued a temporary restraining order last week barring Gary Meredith and his company, Meridith & Associates, from withdrawing any of the money he received from the two-million-dollar contract he created before ending his tenure with the government.

Meredith is accused of misusing his military assignment to create a lucrative retirement for himself.

The judge gave both sides until September 11th to reach a settlement.
