BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A former Bell County substitute teacher admitted to sending obscene pictures to a student.
Adam Scott Hunter, 26, pleaded guilty in court Tuesday.
Bell County Sheriff's Deputies say Hunter sent obscene pictures to a 14-year-old girl's phone in February. Hunter was a Page School substitute teacher at the time.
"We've got to protect our children. We're here to protect our children," said Bell County Commonwealth's Attorney Karen Greene Blondell.
In February, Sheriff's Deputies charged Hunter with use of a minor in a sex performance and distributing obscene material to a minor.
As part of the plea deal, the distributing obscene material to a minor charge was dismissed. The use of a minor in a sex performance charge was amended to unlawful transaction with a minor.
"These are serious charges, the one charge, a very serious charge he's pleaded guilty to, but we're satisfied with that and glad to have this matter resolved," said Brent Caldwell, Hunter's Defense Attorney.
The Commonwealth's Attorney says the girl's parents and the Sheriff's Department agreed to the plea deal.
The Commonwealth's Attorney recommended a six year sentence.
"He had no other criminal history, but because this involves a minor, a six year sentence is appropriate in the penitentiary," said Blondell.
"He made a mistake, there's no question about that, but a one-time mistake and he has accepted responsibility for it and is ready to move on," said Caldwell.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 16th.
Officials say Hunter is no longer a part of the Bell County School District.
