Former Lt. Governor Daniel Mongiardo makes appearance on Issues & Answers

He may not be in Frankfort anymore, but former Lieutenant Governor and Hazard native Daniel Mongiardo is still sharing his thoughts on Kentucky politics.

During a recent interview with WYMT, Mongiardo talked about the problems with partisan bickering, the push to make UPIKE a public university, gambling, and his future.

Dr. Daniel Mongiardo said he liked the idea of the University of Pikeville becoming a part of the state system.

But when asked if he was still in office would he support it, the former Lt Governor and Senator hesitated.

"I hate saying this because I am from eastern Kentucky but we just simply can't afford it,” Dr. Mongiardo said.

While the act of gambling doesn't entice Mongiardo he thinks it would help budget concerns like this.

"We send half a billion dollars to Indiana each year to Indians and Ohio where there using that for their University of Pikeville's and their colleges and schools and roads,” Dr. Mongiardo said.

As of now the Hazard native says he is unsure about his future in politics but he is not ruling out the possibility of running again.

"If I ever run for anything again it would be for a position where I would be able to make decisions and make things happen,” Dr. Mongiardo said.

Hinting he may have interest for the state's leading role as governor.
