Former State Representative Appeals Sentence

A former Democratic Party Leader in Perry County who pleaded guilty to mail fraud in May is now appealing his sentence.

Former State Representative and Circuit Court Clerk, Chester Jones was indicted last year along with former Perry County Judge Executive Sherman Neace.

They were accused of using $7500 from the State Democratic Party to influence voters in the November 2008 election.

One month after Jones received his 12-month sentence, the U.S.

Supreme Court issued a ruling stating mail fraud consisted of actions that lead to profit, such as bribery.
