Former ag commissioner ends up with hotel points

Records show former Agriculture Commission Richie Farmer received hotel reward points after hosting a convention at the Marriott Griffin Gate in Lexington.

The Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture held its annual convention at the hotel in 2008 at a cost of almost $80,000, which was divided between the organization and the Kentucky Agriculture Department.

According to emails obtained by The Courier-Journal under an open records request, 55,000 hotel reward points earned in relation to the visit went to Farmer, who at the time served as president of the organization.

Farmer did not return a phone call from the newspaper requesting comment.
