The former Whitley County sheriff facing a 21 count indictment was back in court.
Lawrence Hodge is accused of tampering with evidence and abuse of public trust while he was the sheriff.
It was just a few months ago when the former sheriff was put in handcuffs ... now he must go through the court system just like any other person facing charges.
Former Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge was only in court for a few minutes.
Hodge stood with his attorneys as they asked the judge to set another pretrial date.
The judge granted their request.
Commonwealth Attorney Allen Trimble says the request from the defense was expected.
"Any case that has this many documents involved as this is going to take some time for the defense to review," said Trimble.
Just downstairs from the courtroom...the new sheriff says his administration is still getting organized.
"There were officers here that didn't have flash lights...can you believe that? I'm saying we are getting it up to the 21st century," said Colan Harrell.
Harrell says thanks to donations from dozens of businesses and law enforcement agencies... he is building a department.
"We need basic stuff... we need cameras... boots. I know these things are simple things but we are working on them and we will have them one way or another," said Harrell.
Harrell says Hodge never left an inventory.
So he and his officers are in the process of collecting guns and any other equipment people might have that belong to the sheriff's department.
"There's a lot of equipment out there that belongs to the Whitley County Sheriff's Department. We want it back," said Harrell.
Harrell says those that do not return the equipment could face charges.
Hodge is now scheduled to be back in court on March 22nd.
