Former teacher enters plea on sexual misconduct charges

A former Breathitt County middle school teacher charged with several counts of sexual misconduct with a minor entered a not guilty plea in circuit court Friday.

Charles Andrew Mitchell faces 15 counts related to alleged sexual misconduct with a minor at Sebastian Middle School. Mitchell was an 8th grade social studies teacher at the time of the incident, but resigned in May.

Mitchell's attorney says his client was an easy target.

"Make Mr. Mitchell a scapegoat and in fact, I think when the truth comes out, the allegations against him have been grossly blown out of proportion," said Attorney Ned Pillersdorf.

Mitchell will be back in court on August 30th for a bond reduction hearing.
