Police believe he was killed in Floyd County.
Police say the area of Goble-Roberts is the last place Brian Jacob Gayheart was seen alive. His family is too upset to talk on camera, but now they are waiting for answers as police try to figure out what led to his death.
This May 18th would have been Brian Jacob Gayheart's 21st birthday, but instead of celebrating, his family is mourning his death.
The family says Gayheart was last seen in the Goble-Roberts area on May 1st. His mother said he never came home again.
“She said it's not like him to be gone for several days and not at least call and check on his children. She knew something was definitely wrong,” Detective Steve Little said.
Investigators say a body found in the Big Sandy River in Boyd County last Thursday is positively identified as Gayheart.
“Because of the way that the death was, the incident that has occurred, and the evidence we have been able to uncover, we feel that foul play is involved in this investigation,” Detective Little said.
The medical examiner has not released a cause of death yet, and police have not released many details about what happened.
They believe Gayheart was killed in Floyd County and his body put in the river in Goble-Roberts.
Police are looking for a motive but say they have suspects.
“We're sure we're going to be able to charge someone with this case,” Detective Little said.
His family hopes for answers soon.
Police say the investigation could take several more days.
