Four lanes return to Cumberland Gap Tunnel

MANCHESTER, Ky. — (March 13, 2012) — The Cumberland Gap Tunnel, which carries U.S. 25E across the Kentucky-Tennessee line, was restored to four lanes Tuesday evening to better serve race fans headed for Bristol this weekend as well as the additional traffic loads currently observed due to lane closures on I-75 south near Jellico.

The tunnel had been reduced to two lanes to accommodate a highway reconstruction project.

The project suspension will remain in effect through the weekend.

Road condition reports for District 11 routes are available by calling 511 or by visiting the 511 travel and traffic information web site at http://511.ky.gov.
