WAYNE, W.Va. (AP) - A gray fox found in southern Wayne County has tested positive for rabies.
The Wayne County Health Department says the fox was found earlier this week between Fort Gay and Crum. Tests conducted at the state Office of Laboratory Services in South Charleston revealed the fox had a strain of rabies found in bats.
Residents in the area are being advised to avoid contact with raccoons, skunks, foxes and any animals demonstrating odd behavior. The health department also advises pet owners to make sure their animals' vaccinations are up to date.
