A gathering between friends turns deadly in Knox County.

State police say Bobby Hamilton, 42, was stabbed to death early Thursday morning at his home in Kay Jay.

Randell Wade Bays, 26, is charged with murder.

Police tape surrounds Bobby Hamilton's home on Jonestown Road. Police found his body on the porch early Thursday morning.

Police say Hamilton was killed after being stabbed in the chest.

Police arrested Bays after questioning him Thursday afternoon.

Friends tell WYMT the two men along with Bays' mother and girlfriend were together at the home.

"They were out drinking, having a good fun time," said Kim Douglas who says he stopped by the house on Wednesday night.

"I wanted to see how they was all doing and when I left, they was all in good mood, having a good time. Everything was fine at the time," said Douglas.

Hours later, a neighbor called 911 at 5:10 a.m. to report the stabbing. When police arrived, they found Hamilton already dead and Bays walking down the street.

"Our investigators are trying to determine the cause on what led to the incidence, but we're still trying to do interviews on individuals that were at the residence and also neighbors to try to figure out what led to the death," said Trooper Shane Jacobs, Kentucky State Police.

Bays' mother and girlfriend did not want to do any media interviews.

Douglas is also trying to figure out what went wrong with his friend.

"Wade was not a violent person," said Douglas.

Police are still trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the fight.

Bays is being held in the Knox County Detention Center. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday.
