Late Thursday afternoon, outside the Truitt Brothers plant in Laurel County, just north of London, a man working on his garbage truck ended up being crushed to death inside it.
27 NEWSFIRST did talk with one of the owners of the Truitt Brothers plant in East Bernstadt. David Truitt feels terrible this happened at the plant, and is sending his deepest condolences to Shawn Fields's family.
Fields worked for Poff Carting, a trash removal contractor in London, that coordinates waste collection for Truitt Brothers. State police say a Truitt Brothers employee found Fields outside the plant. He was trapped between the truck bed and the truck frame. As Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling explains, the hydraulic line on Fields's truck busted, and it pinned him between the bed and the frame of the truck. He suffered injuries to his upper body, and did not survive.
No foul play is expected and no autopsy will be preformed.
The coroner says Fields, a Laurel County resident, leaves behind a wife and children.
