Governor Beshear undergoes surgery for detached retina

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear has undergone minor outpatient surgery to repair a detached retina.

Spokeswoman Kerri Richardson says the problem developed over the weekend and that Beshear woke and had trouble seeing out of one eye. After consulting with his doctor, Richardson says Beshear had the surgery Monday evening in Lexington.

She says the procedure didn't require general anesthesia.

A statement from Beshear's office said the surgery was successful and Beshear "is recovering well."

The statement said Beshear will not be traveling for a few days in order to continue his recuperation.
