HYDEN, Ky. (WYMT) - Three people accused of taking pictures of kids holding joints could now face a jury. A Leslie County grand jury indicted the trio last week and charges range from cultivating marijuana to criminal abuse.
A true bill was signed last week, stemming from a November 2012 bust in which sheriff's deputies seized several marijuana plants and pictures that showed three children under the age of 12 posing with joints in their mouths.
Sheriff's deputies say the pictures took them by surprise.
"When we got the complaint we was awestruck about it because when we got there and started looking at the pictures it was like how could people do stuff like this?" said deputy Adrian Cornett.
Deputies arrested 31-year old William Jeffrey Hensley Saturday at his home in Hoskinston. The children's mother, 23-year old Tracy Hensley, and their grandmother, 51-year-old Beth Anne Hensley, surrendered to police later.
William faces charges of Complicity to Commit Criminal Abuse Second Degree, Criminal Complicity to Commit Unlawful Transaction with a Minor, Second Degree, and Criminal Complicity to Cultivating Marijuana.
Tracy faces counts of Criminal Abuse Second Degree and Unlawful Transaction with a Minor Second Degree.
Beth Anne is charged with Cultivating Marijuana.
All three suspects are being held in the Leslie County Detention Center on $20,000 bond. Deputies say five children were taken from the home, and are now living with family members.
