They are dusting of their leather jackets, putting on the bobby-socks and taking us back to a simpler time this summer at the Jenny Wiley Theatre in Prestonsburg.
On a hot summer night, dozens came to Jenny Wiley to see the original high school musical. Set in the 1950's, Grease is a love story about 'bad boy' Danny and 'the girl next door' Sandy.
“He has to kind of put on an act in front of those guys, even though he is in love with her and the whole story is kind of them finding out who they really are,” said Jon Satrom, who plays Danny.
Actors said they think it is something everyone can relate to.
“I mean everybody has those times when they feel a little bit like a fish out of water and they are not sure how to fit in and they just want to make friends and you want to be popular,” said Carianne Jones, who plays Sandy.
“There's also the being young and being in love and just having a good time and just embracing your youth.”
A car show took place before the show people said that it added to the scene. Actors said it was a nice surprise.
“When we first showed up i was really surprised, it was like, oh look at how cool they are,” said Jones.
“There were four or five of the most beautiful classic cars I have ever seen.”
Grease will play on various nights until Aug. 11.
Other shows at Jenny Wiley this summer include "The Marvelous Wonderettes" and "Honk.” For more information, visit http://www.jwtheatre.com
