Group calls on Beshear to cancel prayer breakfast

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Americans United for the Separation of
Church and State has joined in a call for Gov. Steve Beshear to
cancel a prayer breakfast next week.
The group sent a letter to Kentucky's chief executive on Monday,
contending that the prayer breakfast constitutes an
unconstitutional endorsement of religion.
Beshear said the prayer breakfast set for March 6 is a long-held
tradition that he will not cancel.
The Freedom from Religion Foundation had made a similar request
last week on the same grounds.
