SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) - An organization that works to improve educational achievement in southern and eastern Kentucky has produced a video to encourage students to stay in school.
Forward in the Fifth and The Center for Rural Development are launching the video and accompanying discussion guide during several training sessions starting Feb. 3. They're being held in Columbia, Somerset, Hazard, Williamsburg, Prestonsburg and, tentatively, Morehead.
The video includes stories of eight people from rural Appalachia and shows how choices they made positively, or in one case negatively, affected their education and future.
Attendance at one of the training sessions is required before a school can receive and use the video and discussion guide. To preregister, visit http://crdev.us/stayinschooltoolkit . For more information, call (606) 677-6000 or email fif(at)centertech.com.
