HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Volleys of gunfire will ring out in Hazard tomorrow to honor those who died in service of the United States.
The veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans of Hazard will present two 21-gun salutes tomorrow. One will be at City Hall at 11 a.m. And one will be at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center at 2 p.m. One veteran who is participating, Jerry Shanks, says honoring members of the military is important because of the sacrifices they make every day.
"They do make a lot of sacrifices while they are on active duty. They are away from their families. That's a hard thing to do. I spent 18 months away from home and it's hard for a parent to do that. So they make sacrifices every day besides taking a chance on losing their lives, too," said Jerry Shanks.
Wreaths honoring the fallen Veterans will also be set up at City Hall and the VA center after the 21-gun salutes.
