WISE, Va. (WYMT/WJHL) - Virginia State Police say the reports of a gunman on the UVA-Wise campus was a student hoax.
According to Virginia State Police Public Relations Director, Corinne N. Geller, a UVA-Wise student called 911 to report he had seen a man on campus armed with a gun around 9 p.m Wednesday night.
UVA-Wise Police, Town of Wise Police, Wise County Sheriff's Office, Town of Pound Police, and Virginia State Police immediately responded to the campus to begin a building-by-building search.
The student who made the call confessed that it was all a hoax during an interview with special agents with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Wytheville Field Office.
The lockdown was lifted just before 11 Wednesday night.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Update, 1-23-13 11pm
WISE, Va. (WYMT) - According to the University of Virginia at Wise official website, the campus is no longer on lockdown.
The lockdown was lifted at 10:57pm.
There are also reports that this might have been a hoax.

WISE, VA. (WYMT) - University of Virginia at Wise is on lockdown, according to a school spokesperson.
WJHL is reporting that a caller says a relative, who works next to the UVA Wise Campus, said employees have been told to stay in the building until further notice.
UVA Wise students received an email alert about the lockdown, “Lockdown continued. Alleged gunman on campus. Stay put! Lock all doors until further notice!"
