Severe weather looks likely later this afternoon. The best chances appear to be between 3 p.m. and Midnight. Damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain, and an isolated tornado or two are possible. The area at the greatest risk for severe weather in eastern Kentucky is in the Cumberland Valley, near the I-75 corridor. Keep it locked here for updates.
HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Kentucky congressman Hal Rogers said members of congress need to have an "adult discussion" regarding how to trim funding for entitlement programs.
The 5th district Republican made his comments during a recent episode of "Issues and Answers" on WYMT.
Some entitlement programs like Medicare are being spared from automatic cuts that will be triggered in January because the congressional Super Committee failed to act on the debt ceiling.
Rogers said those cuts are a good start, but there are some drawbacks, such as slicing the defense budget.
"We would have an army no larger than that in World War II," Rogers said. "The Air Force would have fewer dollars than when they started in 1947. The Navy would be back to World War I levels. So it's a draconian cut that we simply cannot afford."
